MEET DR. ISSAM OUESLATI, ACTING DEAN OF MEDTECH

With the appointment of Dr. Khalil Amiri as Secretary of State for Scientific Research and his resignation as Dean of MedTech, Dr. Mahmoud Triki, President of South Mediterranean University has designated Dr. Issam Oueslati the Acting Dean of the Mediterranean Institute of Technology (MedTech).

medtech-issam-oueslatiDr. Issam Oueslati is Associate Professor of Supramolecular Chemistry, Senior Researcher, and member of the X-Ray Center for Materials Research at the University of Coimbra (Portugal). He holds a PhD in Supramolecular Chemistry from the European School of Chemistry, Polymers, and Materials (France) and a habilitation (Chair) in Materials Chemistry from the EUCOR [European Confederation of Universities on the Upper Rhine – University of Strasbourg (France), University of Karlsruhe (Germany), University of Basel (Switzerland)].

Prior to joining MedTech as a full-time professor, Dr. Oueslati held various positions in Technology R&D within major industrial companies among which Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD) where he improved the production process of losartan (active pharmaceutical ingredient) that led to the reduction of production costs by 1.4 million Euros in the manufacturing plant in Blavozy-France, TecMinho and IPN (Best Science Based Incubator Award 2010) where he worked in the valorization, technology transfer, and spin‐off creation. He also served in the same capacity at the Cristopher Ingold Laboratories at the University College London where he developed specific macromolecules for tuberculosis therapy, the University of Porto and the Multidisciplinary Research Center of IST (most reputed school of engineering in Portugal) where he developed the earliest nanoporous molecular crystals, the Institute of Physical Chemistry at the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Institut de Biologie et Chimie des Protéines at the CNRS. Throughout his academic career, Dr. Oueslati received numerous awards as research fellow and invited professor from several national and transnational European programs and organizations such as ERASMUS, AMIDILA, PAN, BBSRC, FCT, MECD, CNRS.
